Bristol is often overlooked by distant travelers but is a local favorite, and for good reason. There are plenty of things to do in Bristol; if you can’t find something to do, then you’re not looking hard enough!

One of the newest attractions to the Bristol area is called “Explore at Bristol”. Geared for all ages, Explore at Bristol is an interactive science and technology attraction and boasts several fun interactive events. Here you can spend some time at the flight zone, and understand flight and the technology of flight. Or for a more hand’s on experience, go to the curiosity zone where you can play with lights, mirrors, magnets, vibration, and sound. Just like science class but without the old smelly teacher. If you’re looking for something more laid back, Explore at Bristol also has a great planetarium so you can just sit back and stare up at the sky.

Birstol is also home to an excellent zoo, which features over 450 different species of exotic animals. They have an excellent monkey and gorilla exhibit, as well as penguin exhibits, an aquarium, bug house, and newly opened butterfly forest. The zoo also has a beautiful 12 acre garden, that’s spectacular for taking pictures. Go here during the spring when the plants are blooming and the animals are mating. Be sure to bring a camera.

If gardens are your thing though, the University of Bristol gardens are unbeatable. A mere 5 acres big, the gardens are home to over 4,500 plant species and features plants not found anywhere near Bristol. You can explore plants from as far away as South Africa and the Amazon, as well as gaze upon local favorites like the Wollemi pine and local tree ferns.

These are great options to take up a few hours of your afternoon, and most of these expeditions are quite cheap to boot.

Even if you don’t have any money to spend, there is always plenty of window shopping to be done in Bristol. If you’re looking to spend your time in a big shopping mall, you’re in luck because Bristol has two. Cabot Circus is a great place to find all of the newest and trendiest clothes sold by big name retailers. You will also find a plethora of record stores and electronics stores as you make your way down the hidden alleys and streets. Once you’re done buying a new wardrobe, you can grab a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants and cafes that line Park Street. Bristol Car Hire

Bristol holidays are not often considered to be holidays with a great deal of travel involved from day to day; and due to the fact the airport is hardly a great distance away from the tourist areas you may not be considering Bristol airport car hire. You’d certainly expect to spend your time on the beach or in the arcades or clubs right? And whilst these are normally, relatively close by to the hotels etc, even if the town of Bristol itself is far enough from the coast to warrant renting a car, many people do not realise this until they get there. With the distance between the town and seaside not being incredibly small this in itself is reason enough to hire a car, beaches and busses have never really been a fantastic combination. The reason many people make the assumption that Bristol is so close to the beach is quite probably due to the fact the Bristol Channel is the name given to the waters closest to Bristol. So it wouldn’t be a daft thought to assume that Bristol is entirely a coastal region.

However there are much more things to do around Bristol than the obvious and stereotype Bristol holiday, which if we’re perfectly honest doesn’t have a great reputation in the UK. Although, much has changed since the 90′s horror shows which were British seaside breaks, so it would be unfair to continue to tar all towns like Blackpool, Rhyl and the likes with the same brush. Bristol has in recent times become a bit of a shopping break powerhouse after several developments which together with the distance of the beaches are of course a fantastic reason to hire a car. So, you may as well invest in some Bristol airport car hire.
